in my closet, summer means one word. DRESSES!!!!!! god i love a dress. it's mainly becuase im lazy and i take foreverrrr to get dressed. having to put on just ONE thing simplifies a lot! it's also too hot to wear pants in summer ( in Asia anyway- the humididity is deadly) so dresses and skirts become a daily staple. but seriously, dresses are easy to wear, femenine and on most women, extremely flattering- what's not to like?. finding the perfect summer dress is simply a matter of dressing for your body type, and there is the perfect dress for EVERY body, including yours:

apple: This one is also known as "top heavy". flat chested girls eye your boobs with envy! divas with this body type should probably avoid heavily embelished dresses, or any thing desined to make the bust seem fuller . avoid cowls, heavy ruching, frills or any heavy details on the bodice. a Vneck or plunging neckline is the best as it makes you appear less round but be careful as you dont want any slippage! a dress with an empire waist is flattering on most body types, including yours, as it elongates the leg line as it gives the illusion of a higher waist and  a dress with a fuller skirt will also help to balance you out.

pear: the opposite of apple. small on top, full on the bottom. pear girls got some junk in the trunk and know what to do with it! again, the A-line dress saves the day. u want a skirt that floats away from your body, avoid dressed that pleat or gather at the waist as these details make the hips look fuller (and u already got curves!) the bodice of the dress should balance you out, so try tops with a bit of embelishment to add volume to your bustline (just think the opposite of apple). strapless corset tops, halters, or round neck dresses are perfect for this shape. or make a statement with colour by wearing a light colour on top and a dark colour on the bottom! add volume with a necklace if the bodice is too plain.  the goal here is to draw attention to your upper body.

Forever 21, Betsey Johnson
1. perfect dress for the apple shaped diva. the pattern and the empire waist draws the eye away from your bust line downwars, giving yout the illusion of fuller hips. 2. asymmetrical perfection for the pear shaped diva. the detail on the bodice adds volume and interest to your top half while the A-line skirt gently flows away fom your hips.

hourglass: we hate you all. you are curvy, yet proportional and everything looks good on you. wear whatever you want. you're perfect. i have no advice for you. get off my blog! but seriously- hourglass shapes really do have their choice when it comes to dresses. however, they should probably avoid heavily embellished dresses as they can make you look heavier than you are.. AHAHA. (ok thats mean... i'm sorry)

prefect dress for the square-shaped diva. ruching helps
define the waist and the a line skirt flatters the hip.
accessorize and style to complete the look.
round: yes. round IS a shape. some of the best things in life are round: cookies, cake, donuts.. and you! most women are round shaped after a bit of weight gain or changes in the body that come with getting older ( i'm eyeing you, 30th birthday- dont u dare!) round-shaped women appear to have slimmer limbs with weight focused at the centre of the body.  you might be inclined to wear a dress that covers everything but you'd just look like an old school marm. in-fact, showing skin is actually slimming and sexy! show off your arms and upper body with  deep v or scoop -neck dresses that elongate the neckline. also, look for styles with a slimming waistline:thick straps and halter dresses work as they draw attention AWAY from your waist, but the empire waist dress is my fav for this. it fouces on the slimmest part of your body (just under the bust) and also makes your legs look longer!

square: also known as boyish, or rectangle. women with this body type usually have a slender or atheletic frame. you are naturaly slim and we all hate you for it! this body shape is generally straight up and down. you don't have any curves, so you want a dress that going to create them for you. there are two easy ways to do this. you can try a dress with a beaded neckline or an embelished bodice- the goal here is to give the illusion of a fuller chest and add some shape. your other option is to create a defined waist line. a full skirt will do the trick. you are one of the few body types that can get away with a frilled skirt! look for dresses with details at the waist: darts, embelished waist lines, or even ribbons. you can also define your waist line with a statement belt. contrary to popular belief, you should avoid clingy dresses (sheaths, bodycons etc) as they are not going to do anything for your shape.

the thing with dresses, is that you never know what's going to work for you unless you try different things on. you might surprise yourself! and in reality, you may well be a conbination of shapes. just try different dresses on and find what works for you. be sure to compelete the look with accessories and styling.
and of course since were are all about budget, heres a tip: find that one great dress that you can dress up or dress down- one that has more versatility. that way you get more for your money!

heres to great summer dresses. im off to have a mojito. cheers divas!
