if you're anything like me then maybe your feet get a bit neglected in winter. the most attention the get is some lotion after my shower and then i immediately pull my socks on. but now with the weather warming up, i peel of the three layers of socks that i wear during the cold-ass winter, and i am mortified! WTH! my toes are crusty and in need of some serious TLC - gotta get these tosies in shape for summer! crusty feet are never cute.
i used to take serious care of my feet: mothly pedicures, exfoliation, foot crea.ms you name it. that's what you do when u live in 24/7 sandal weather. but in japan, pedicures are expensive and actually rather horrible. there's no soaking your feet in bubbles, exfoliation, or foot massage. they wipe your feet with a damp towel, cut and file your toenails and polish. that's it. they MUST be kidding! that visit was my first and last. now i do it myself. while it's not the relaxing experience you get when you go to a PROPER salon, the end result is basically the same.here are some of my favourite items for the perfect at-home pedicure:
foot spa: sure, you can rise off your feet and be done with it, but few things are more relaxing than a soak in the foot spa. add footbath gel and enjoy the bubbles!
foot scrub: a good foot scrub will exfoliate the heels as you work them way back to a presentable state. one of my favs is the body shop peppermint cooling pumice foot scrub. it has a nice tingly after-effect. massage vigourously into your heels for maximum benefit.
foot file: if your feet are in exceptionally poor condition (read: crusty), a footfile is the perfect tool. it takes a bit of elbow grease but a rigourous scrub on your heels and soles will do the trick. you csn also try the ped-egg. i don't have one so i can't say much about it but mama diva swears by it.
moisturizer: in my experience, foot moisturizer should be a bit thicker/richer than regular lotion. to ensure that you don't develop dry, cracked heels, try a rich moisturiser like nivea creme or curel, and massage into heels while they are still damp.
nail polish: of course you'd use a base coat if you want to prevent your nails* from looking jaundiced- and on top of that, a nice rich colour. i'm partial to dark colours myself, but aint nothing wrong with a nice hot pink! (OPI is my favourite brand.) don't forget to add your topcoat to keep it nice and shiny!
so that's it divas. i'm off to get my feet in order.
later!
*(its a given that you would trim and shape your toenails...right)
