work it out: spring 2013 colours! (NEONS!)

the perfect look for a spring day-date

so its been awhile. i can sit here and write a million excuses for my absence but i won't. i cant function in winter. that is all. but the winter is over, i'm out of hibernation, birds are singing, so it's time to get to WERK! unless you've been blindfolded under a rock, you would have noticed (no, scratch that, i actually, have been under a rock and i still noticed) that the spring 2013 palette is colourful as usual, but with a major twist. instead of the regular pastels, neons are taking centre stage, and i am HERE for it! WOOT! neon in every colour! hell, if they made neon black i'd probably wear it! i can barely contain myself. it's like an excited rainbow explosion! (accessories after the jump!)

inspiration: clothes i CANNOT afford
pulling it together
but to the point of my post-neons are like any other colours, but they exist in a brighter hues - so, you would co-ordinate the same way you would regular-toned colours... if orange complements blue, then tangerine goes with turquoise! the general rules of pulling colours together still apply, although you would probably want to avoid and monochromatic neon outfit, unless you want to look like a highlighter (not cute). the idea is to look fresh and alive, but not like you're on a psychedelic trip. try playing with different weights and textures of fabrics to keep it interesting yet tasteful. i dont know about you guys but head to toe day-glow spandex is not what i have in mind.

random tip: find the neon that complements your skin, not one that washes you out or makes you glow in the dark. for caramel to chocolate brown divas id recommend pinks and oranges. for my fairer skinned divas i suggest the yellows and greens.

accessories
of course, if you're too timid to rock an entire rainbow-brite outfit then u can always go the safe route and play with accessories. the neon palette is bound to shout life into the usual summer-white looks. plus its probably cheaper to play with accessories since this is a trend and you dont want to spend too much on it. budgets must be adhered to (i know, lame.) anyway, here are my favourite neon accessories.

so thats if for this post divas! go forth and blind fashion infidels with your neons!
XOXO
k.
