do you remember painting the colour wheel in secondary school? i'm sure you thought, "why do i have do this! i don't even like art!" because of my background as a graphic designer, however, i always take colour theory into consideration when i'm putting a look together. that's when your colour wheel exercise comes in handy.
take, for example, your primary colours -red, yellow and blue. they will always complement each other (go together) as they form the basis of our colour wheel and from what's referred to as a tradic harmony. these colours together make for a bold look, that's hard to ignore.
| the primary colours, red, blue and yellow lie opposite each other on the colour wheel and form the basis of every other colour. |
play with different tones of the colours, for example, a navy blue versus a cobalt blue, to see what works better. mix and match textures to make it interesting, and to avoid looking too child-like or matchy-matchy. the Badgley Mischka calf hair bowler bag is a great piece as the red zebra print adds a bold colour and pattern to the look. play with texture by adding other accessories to your look but keep it understated as you want the look to be pulled together, not over the top.
so, thats it for our lesson on primary colours. stay tuned for more tips on pulling looks together. and being divas on a budget, the both the bag and the Victoria Beckham Jeans are on sale. and remember to check out sites like theoutnet, giltgroupe and shopstyle for sales and deals on designer labels.
stay fabulous!
