work it out : coloured/pattern denim (analogus harmony)

coloured jeans are baddass. i'm totally loving this trend of bold colours and patterned denims. color is great but it's easy to go wrong: wear the wrong shade, and you look like rainbow bright! wear too many colours and you look like you're  straight out of an episode of "In Living Color". both scary, both fail.

to make this look work, you need balance. one of the easiest ways to balance an outfit is to return to the good old colour wheel. inthis case, i used an analogous harmony. analogus colours are the ones that lie next to each other on the wheel (as opposed to complementary colours being opposites.)
yellow, yellow orange and orange lie next to each other on the colour wheel.
together they form an analogous harmony

coloured denim is usually best paired with neutrals, but if you want to step it up a bit, wear it with colours of the same family. as the lepoard print skinny jeans fall in the yellow family, wear it with related colours like orange. you can also safely add a close neutral, like an orange-brown, for more contrast.

what i like about this type of harmony is that it's really simple. the colours lie next to each other on the wheel so its easy to mix and match. seamlessly blending three or more colors in your sexy ensemble, you now have a lot of room for  variety without looking like you're wearing the entire box of crayons.

as always, play with different textures and  patterns for more visual interest.

later divas!
(what say you? coloured/patterned denim..yay or nay?)

note:  if i didn't mention it before, the basic colour wheel is made up of 12 colours. clockwise, they are: red, red-orange, orange, yellow orange, yellow, yellow-green, green, blue-green, blue, blue-violet, violet, and red-violet.
